EcoMug: An Efficient COsmic MUon Generator for cosmic-ray muon applications

Applications of cosmic-ray (CR) muons have grown in numbers the last decade. Measurements flux attenuation (radiography) and scattering angles (tomography) CR been successfully applied to inspection or monitoring large natural civil structures, search for heavy metals container trucks, control nuclear wastes, much more. In present work, a new Monte Carlo generator muons, called EcoMug specifically designed muon radiography tomography applications, is presented. It header-only C++11 library, based on parametrization experimental data. Unlike other tools, gives possibility generating from different surfaces (plane, cylinder half-sphere), while keeping correct angular momentum distribution generated tracks. For example, this flexibility allows very efficient generation nearly horizontal great interest many by using cylindrical half-spherical surfaces. We present a review of atmospheric and underground muon flux measurements. The relevance of these data for the atmospheric neutrino flux computation is emphasized. Possible sources of systematic errors in the measurements are discussed, focusing on the sea level muon data. Underground muon data are also reported.

In this work a measurement of the muon intensity at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, NM, USA is presented. WIPP is a salt mine with a depth of 655 m. The vertical muon flux was measured with a two panels scintillator coincidence setup to Φvert = (3.10 +0.05 −0.07) 10 −7 s−1cm−2sr−1.
